AUTHOR: TOWNE SCHERER.COM 05/20/2015: Towne Scherer Private Wealth Management BLOG: How many vacations do you take a year? According to NewsNow, in the last 6 years President Obama has gone on vacation 38 times at a cost of over $40 million dollars. In particular, Judicial Watch reports that the Obama Hawaii Christmas vacations over the past three years have cost taxpayers $15,540,515.10 in travel expenses alone. No frequent flyer miles, I guess. In addition, the obamagolfcounter Web Page reports as of February 16, 2015, President Obama has played 219 rounds of golf during that same period. Following suit, U.S. business travel spending is projected to top $310 billion in 2015, according to Global Business Travel Association (GBTA). The GBTAgoes on to say that “the projection for 2015 remains strong, as lower oil prices are expected to lead to increased consumer spending, boosting economic projections.” One wonders how the recent increase in oil prices may effect this projection. Nevertheless, according to an American Express 2013 survey on summer vacation travel, the average expense per person in the United States is $1,145 or $4,580 for a family of four. However, according to the CreditLoan Web Page(CLWP), “more than half of American workers fail to take all of their vacation days. Thirty percent say they use less than half of their allotted time.” CLWP also made this claim, “among so-called extreme jobholders, 42 percent claim they have to cancel vacation plans regularly. Americas take even less vacation time than the Japanese, the people who gave rise to karoshi – the phenomenon of being worked to death.” On a positive note, work.chron.com reports that managers of funeral homes (are showing) an average annual salary of nearly $104,000, (at) an average wage of approximately $50 per hour.” So, I guess you might say business being dead might be good but….bad for American vacations. Aloha!
