AUTHOR: TOWNE SCHERER.COM 05/15/2015: Towne Scherer Private Wealth Management BLOG: Attorney General Loretta Lynch is opening a Justice Department review of the Baltimore Police Department in relation to the death of Freddie Gray, a black man, according to CBS News, stating that, “rather than examining whether the police department violated good policies, we will examine if they violated the constitution and the community’s civil rights.” Also in police news, CNN reports that about 30,000 people, including law enforcement officers from across the country, are expected to attend the funeral of Brian Moore, a NYPD Officer, shot in the head while questioning a black man in Queens. In the wake of such events, USA Today has reported in an article this May that the Obama administration, in the ‘Interim Report of The President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing (COPS),’has suggested federalizing the local police. This should make for an interesting argument of state’s rights and civil rights. Coincidentally, the Independent Sentinel reported in March, 2015, that “a new pilot program launched by the Holder DOJ could help bring police departments under federal control.” Speaking of train wrecks, a horrendous accident occurred in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, involving a train that apparently jumped the track after exceeding speeds of 100 mph, reports CNN. CNN further reported that eight people were killed and 200 injured, with the train engineer having “no recollection whatsoever of the events.” Train wrecks and federalizing of the police force…where have we heard that before in history?
