AUTHOR: TOWNE SCHERER.COM 06/01/2015: Towne Scherer Private Wealth Management BLOG: Federal judges have ruled that President Obama’s executive order on immigration policy must remain on hold while 26 states sue for its overturn, according to Bloomberg. Speaking of government in the news, a USA Today article reports that FBI Director James Comey says “there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people across the country who are receiving recruitment overtures from the terrorist group (ISIS) or directives to attack the U.S.” “It’s like the devil sitting on their shoulders, saying ‘kill, kill, kill,” Comey said in a meeting with reporters. Not stopping there, Time reports that Commander Mirwais of the Hezb-e-Islami, an Afghan Militant group notorious for its brutality, says that “We pray for (ISIS) and if we don’t see a problem in the way they operate, we will join them.” On the local front, Bloomberg reports that the markets and the stock-index futures pulled back at the beginning of the week, mostly driven by news on a possible move up in interest rates this year. Bloomberg went on to point out that efforts to blame the slowing economy on the bad weather in the first quarter of 2015 are starting to give way to poor durable goods data. Finally, FOX NEWS reports that the city of Cleveland, in a settlement with the DOJ involving excessive force and civil rights violations by its police department, is now required to “improve training and guidance and how officers may use force” and (must receive) “biased-free training.” In addition, the police force must appoint an independent monitor to oversee the police which some might see as a step toward federalizing police in the U.S. Nevertheless, “America will never be destroyed from outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln. So what should we be looking at?
