China-Based Hack, Man-Made Islands, Throwing Elbows, Russian Advice, GOP Field, No Clear Winner

| June 12, 2015

AUTHOR: TOWNE SCHERER.COM 06/10/2015: Towne Scherer Private Wealth Management BLOG:  The China-based hack on U.S. government computers, compromising the personal data of 4 million current and former federal employees might be one of the largest breaches of information ever on government workers, according to an article in ReutersJosh Earnest, Press Secretary for the White House, responded to the cyberattack with this tepid remark, “So, to say that our computer systems in the federal government are at risk is not news.” China made more news by building what many construe as military bases in the South China Sea on man-made islands.  CNN reported that “China is sailing its first aircraft carrier, (is) equipping its nuclear missions with multiple warheads, and (is) developing missiles to destroy aircraft carriers.  And now, China is building military bases far from its shores.”  I guess, in the spirit of the NBA Playoffs, President Obama responded to this news by warning China Monday that “it should not try to expand its sovereignty in the South China Sea by ‘throwing elbows,’” reported CBS NEWS.  Nevertheless, a week ago ESPN noted that President Obama did respond on Twitter to questions about the NBA Championship game with the following Tweet, “Jr. Smith having a great season but the heart of the Cavs is Lebron.  And no one can outshoot Curry – maybe Korver if wide open.”  In other news, Bloomberg reports U.S. stocks fell as investors weigh Greek talks, America’s shale oil boom is grinding to a halt, Elon Musk says utilities shouldn’t fear his battery systems and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in a TV interview that “(the) Islamic State can get ‘very far’ unless stopped, and air strikes alone ‘are not going to do the trick.’” Russian’s advising countries about aggression, how weird.  Last but not least, the Republican field for presidential candidates has expanded to include Skip Andrews, Michael Bickelmeyer, Kerry Bowers, Dr. Ben Carson, Dale Christensen, Ted Cruz, John Dummett, Jr., Mark Everson, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Chris Hill, Mike Huckabee, Michael Kinlaw, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Michael Petyo, Marco Rubio, Brian Russell and Rick Santorum, according to  Politicks.org.  And, apparently, there are more candidates still exploring a run at the presidency or are still undeclared.  But, unlike the Triple Crown-winner this week, American Pharoah, there is no clear winner at this time.
