Trump and Clinton Basically Tied

In a series of campaign shuffles that resulted in the replacement of Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort with Steve Bannon as the Chief Executive Officer of the Trump presidential campaign and Kellyanne Conway as campaign manager of the Trump presidential campaign, Breitbart 8/24/2016 reports that a new Economist/YouGov poll has Trump within three points of Clinton, which is basically a tie when you factor in the margin of error. However, the poll shows this presidential race to be four-way with Clinton at 42 percent, Trump at 38 percent, Johnson at six percent, and Stein at four percent. With November looming, the race is still tight.

Government Needs to Get Out of the Way

Gary Johnson, Libertarian Party presidential candidate, says the government needs to get out of the way, according to a 8/24/2016 CNBC report. Johnson says the establishment isn’t really interested in making our lives easier, that, to the contrary, they are intent on tightening the classifications of independent contractors so that soon there won’t be any. However, as an optimist, he believes the government cannot forever stand in the way of an entrepreneurial transformation that consumers and the marketplace are so demanding.

Global Terrorism Update

According to the GTD (Global Terrorism Database) as of this date, between 1970 and 2015 the world has experienced more than 150,000 cases of terrorism. GTD says this number includes 75,000 bombings, 17,000 assassinations and 9,000 kidnappings since 1970. In 2016, Wikipedia lists global terrorist attacks at 97 in January, 69 in February, 108 in March, 150 in April, 197 in May, 217 in June, 192 in July and 116 in August, for a grand total of 1,146 incidents. To add an economic layer to the situation, the Balance 8/6/2016, reports that between 2001 and 2017 $1.778 trillion in the form of emergency funding added to the base budget for the Department of Defense has been for the ‘War on Terror.’ I tell you, sounds like somebody is probably getting rich over this terrorist stuff.
