Economists at the central bank are 'no longer anticipating a recession,'says Fed Chair Powell, in a news conference last Wednesday, reports Money, 7/30/2023. Interestingly, Powell, in reference to the recession call-off, noted a cooling in the job market had resulted in fewer job openings and more people joining the workforce— not from higher unemployment. In turn, recession concerns and interest rate hikes have pressured the stock market since early 2022.
Nevertheless,
improving sentiment around the economy
could help boost stock prices
moving forward...
