Booze Booming
Since the advent of the Covid 19 in the US, ‘alcoholic beverage sales have risen by 55%’ as of the end of this past March, says USC News April, 2020. As isolation and distancing continue there will be more problems related to alcohol abuse reported Daryl Davies, professor of clinical pharmacology at the USC School of Pharmacy and director of the Alcohol and Brain Research Laboratory at USC. So, one person’s medicine in another person’s poison…not!!!
Alcohol Disorders by Country
Based on their most recent data, The World Health Organization lists these countries as having the highest incidence of alcohol disorders among males:
-Russia 16.29%
-Hungary 15.29%
-Republic of Moldova 14.08%
-Lithuania 13.35%
-Republic of Korea 13.1%
-Latvia 11.54%
-Belarus 11.43%
-Estonia 11.09%
-Niue 10.58%
-Colombia 10.33%
Some might say…it looks like the Balkan countries and Russia are partying…or, rather, self-medicating….Wow!!!
Covid 19 and Mental Health
Almost Half of Americans say the covid 19 crisis is hurting their mental health, reports a Kaiser Family Foundation poll 4/2/2020. Specifically, between March 25 to March 30, 45% of adults believe the pandemic has impacted their mental health, while 19% believe it has had a major impact. Further, these numbers are higher with women, Hispanic adults and black adults. Interested in seeing the #’s for May and June….we can only hope they’re improving.
