A Patient Fed
There will be no increase in the Federal Funds Rate this January, with the Fed indicating they will be “patient,” according to Yahoo Finance 1/30/2019. Their rational for such action is based on global economic and financial developments and muted inflation pressures. Further, the Fed’s balance sheet will remain large and its reduction should not be seen as a key part of setting policy. In addition, the labor market, in the Fed’s view, has continued to strengthen. All good news and most likely calming news for the markets.
The Government is Open
The government is open, at least until February 15th, reports FOX 1/26/2019. Trump agreed to do so without the $5.7 Billion requestedto build a wall on the southern US border. However, if an agreement for the wall isn’t completed by the 15th he would declare a national emergency and order the U.S. military to construct the wall, using Defense Department funds. Maybe he’ll even use the soldiers coming home from Syria...the chess game continues.
